The threaded flange design (also called a 'screwed flange') uses a screw thread to connect the flange to a pipe. A male thread is cut onto a pipe end whilst a female thread is cut into the bore of the flange; the male threaded pipe is then screwed into the female threaded flange.
Threaded flanges are a type of pipe flange that incorporates threads on the inner bore, allowing them to be screwed onto the pipe. These flanges are designed for applications where the welding of flanges to pipes is not practical or desired. Instead of welding, threaded flanges provide a convenient and secure method of connecting pipes, valves, and other equipment in a piping system.

Threaded Connection: Threaded flanges have threads on the inner bore, which match the threads on the pipe. This threaded connection creates a strong and reliable joint without the need for welding.
Versatility: Threaded flanges are versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications. They are commonly employed in low-pressure piping systems, such as those found in water supply, air, steam, and gas pipelines.
Easy Installation: One of the main advantages of threaded flanges is the ease of installation. The threaded connection allows for quick assembly and disassembly of the piping system, making maintenance and repairs more straightforward.
Materials and Sizes: Threaded flanges are available in various materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steel, to suit different applications and environments. They also come in different sizes to accommodate pipes of varying diameters.
Sealing: To ensure a tight and leak-free seal, threaded flanges often require the use of thread sealants or Teflon tape. Proper sealing is crucial to prevent leaks and maintain the integrity of the piping system.
Pressure Rating: Threaded flanges are generally suitable for low to moderate pressure applications. It is essential to consider the pressure rating of the flange and ensure that it aligns with the requirements of the specific piping system.
While threaded flanges offer advantages in terms of ease of installation and versatility, it's important to note that they may not be suitable for high-pressure or high-temperature applications where welded connections are typically preferred. The choice between threaded and welded flanges depends on the specific requirements and conditions of the piping system.

What is a Threaded Flanges?
An apparatus that joins something that may be fastened to a length of pipe without the requirement for welding is called a threaded flange. The threaded flange can be tightened onto the pipe without leaking if the threads are tapered. When applicable, a seal weld is typically utilised. Because of the threaded connection, threaded flanges can be used in situations where welding is impractical, for as in explosive or highly flammable environments. The flange is typically limited to usage on pipelines with small diameters. The extremely explosive nature of the materials transferred through the pipeline makes welding impossible in the majority of refineries, manufacturing shipyards, and facilities. When assembling pipelines in this environment, a threaded flange is an excellent choice. The pipe is tapered on the outside and threaded into the threaded flange using a tapered thread within the flange. The two tapers become entangled, sealing the flange junction and making it tight. Sometimes a seal weld is placed around the flange and pipe connection if the criteria are met for them to be safely welded. A seal weld might be helpful when discussing threaded connectors. For high-pressure piping systems with smaller diameter applications, the special flange is typically utilised. A thread is more difficult to manufacture the greater the flange.
Threaded Flanges Uses
Numerous industries, including the chemical, food, and oil and gas sectors, use threaded flanges. Connecting pipes or hoses to pumps, valves, pressure vessels, tanks, and other equipment are a few typical uses for them. In addition, these flanges offer an airtight seal when attached to hoses or pipes that carry pressurised liquids or gases.
Threaded Flanges Welding
A variety of welding techniques, including arc welding (MIG/TIG), oxy-acetylene welding (OAW), soldering, and brazing, can be used to join threaded flanges. TIG (inert tungsten gas) welding is the most often used welding method for threaded flange connectors because of its excellent output. An expert welder with the ability to form solid connections between the components being welded together without leaving any weak spots in the joint area is needed for this kind of welding.
Threaded Flanges Types
The market is currently filled with a variety of threaded flange kinds. They consist of the following flange types: Orifice (OR), Slip On (SO), Lap Joint (LJ), Blind (BL), Socket Weld (SW), Weld Neck (WN), and Long Weld Neck (LWN). Depending on the intended usage, each kind has special benefits of its own. For instance, Lap Joints are made for applications where low pressure is present; Blinds offer excellent sealing capabilities; Weld Necks offer greater rigidity due to their long neck length; Orifices allow greater flow control compared to other types; and Long Weld Necks provide more excellent stability. Slip On flanges, on the other hand, require less material than other types while providing a good degree of strength.
