What is a Orifice Flange?
The Orifice Flange measures the flow of product through a piping system. When the Orifice Plate is installed, flow is restricted, resulting in differential pressure, which is used to determine the flow rate of liquids, steam, or gases. The Orifice Plate is a thin plate with a centre bore that corresponds to the desired flow rate.
Purpose of an Orifice Flange
1. They are commonly used in conjunction with orifice metres to measure the flow rate of liquids or gases passing through a pipe.
2. An orifice plate, which measures the flow of the inner fluid or gas, is sandwiched between two orifice flanges attached to the pipe.
3. The orifice plate has a tiny hole, and two pressure tap holes are bored in each flange to help measure the pressure inside the pipe.
4. A 'jack screw' is inserted between the two flanges, allowing them to be separated during the inspection or replacement procedure.
